Council Offers Math, Science, Scholarships to Big-City Students

  • In partnership with Dr. Bernard Harris, the Council of the Great City Schools is again this year offering the CGCS-Bernard Harris Scholarships Program for high school seniors preparing to study STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) majors in college.

The scholarships, named in recognition of Bernard Harris, a former astronaut, physician, and businessman, and the first African American to walk in space, will be available to 2022 graduating seniors in urban school districts represented by the Council.

To help alleviate some of the financial burdens that come with pursuing higher education, four $5,000 scholarships for two males and two females will be awarded to two Black and two Hispanic seniors pursuing a degree in STEM disciplines in the fall.

To apply for the 2022 scholarship, the application must be submitted online by May 6, 2022 and is available here. A committee appointed by the Council will review the applications, and recipients will be selected by Dr. Harris and notified in June.
