Mary Stablein Lawson is the General Counsel for the Council of the Great City Schools, where she develops Council legal positions representing the needs and concerns of urban public-school systems and advises the Council’s leadership on legal, legislative, and regulatory education issues.
Before joining the Council, Lawson was assistant general counsel for the Miami-Dade County School Board. She also served as assistant general counsel for the Broward County School Board and was an associate attorney at Hogan Lovells, LLP.
Mary began her career in the classroom, spending eight years as a social studies teacher in Pittsburgh Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, and Maryland’s Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Mary holds a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. She received a J.D. from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C and is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Florida.
FUN FACTS: Mary has two daughters and has been a soccer mom for 25 years.
