Nominees Sought for Presidential Awards in Math and Science

  • Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The award recognizes STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and computer science educators who excel in having a vast knowledge of the subjects they teach and their ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in their respective areas of study.

    Presidential Awards for Excellence Logo Every year up to 108 outstanding teachers are recognized from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity schools or the U.S. territories as a group.

    Mathematics and science teachers from grades K-6 with at least five years of full-time mathematics or science teaching experience are eligible for this year’s award. Elementary teachers receive the award on even numbered years and secondary teachers receive the award on odd numbered years.

    Winners receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation and a paid trip to Washington D.C., for recognition ceremonies and professional development opportunities. A teacher may either be nominated for the award by others or can nominate themselves. The nomination deadline is March 1, 2020 and the application deadline is May 1, 2020.
