Report English Language Learners in America’s Great City Schools: Demographics, Achievement, and Staffing

The English Language Learners (ELLs) attending schools in the member districts of the Council account for nearly one-quarter of all ELLs in the nation. This report presents the results of a two-year long study to gather data on the fastest-growing demographic group in the nation's schools. It updates most of the data presented in the Council's first-ever study on English language learner (ELL) programs that was released in 2013.

    FGM/C Prevention: A Resource for U.S. Schools

The latest estimate from the Centers for Disease Control indicates that in 2012 there were over half a million (512,000) young women and girls at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C), the partial or total removal of a girl's external genitalia. The Council of the Great City Schools has partnered with Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation to create this resource guide for U.S. school staff to support the prevention of this dangerous non-medical surgical procedure.
