Las Vegas Activist Graduates Valedictorian

  • At West Career and Technical Academy (WCTA) in Las Vegas, Patrick Donn Dimasin was a top student in the school’s biomedical science program, but also served as a youth leader and activist.

As Chair of the Nevada Youth Legislature, Patrick worked to pass a concussion policy (SB80) that helps reintegrate students with concussions back into the classroom.

Having qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament multiple times, Patrick used their organizing and public speaking skills to coordinate political events, such as the Las Vegas Gun Violence March. Patrick also served as a youth community organizer during the 2022 midterm election for One APIA Nevada, a nonprofit organization advocating for policies empowering Asian American Pacific Islanders in Nevada.

Other extracurricular activities Patrick was involved in included serving as the founder and president of WCTA’s Mock Trial Club, helping it rank third in the state as a two-year program, and vice president of West Career’s Key Club for the past two years, helping lead the club to a victory at the regional training conference.

Patrick graduated as the valedictorian of their senior class and will attend Pomona College in California this fall, with plans to do a double major in chemistry and public policy analysis.

At Pomona College, Patrick plans to pursue a career in appellate advocacy as a long-term goal but hopes to work in political advocacy as a short-term goal. And they will continue to use their voice to uplift others and serve their community.
