Education Secretary to Speak at Legislative/Policy Conference

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will address urban education leaders at the Council of the Great City Schools’ Annual Legislative/Policy Conference, March 16-19, at the historic Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Cardona is the nation’s 12th U.S. Secretary of Education. Before becoming education secretary, Cardona served as Commissioner of Education in Connecticut. He began his career in education as an elementary teacher.
Also addressing the conference will be Jessica Rosenworcel, chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission.
A leader in spectrum policy, Rosenworcel develops new ways to support wireless services and is responsible for developing policies to help expand the reach of broadband to schools, libraries, hospitals, and households across the country.
Conferees will also hear from Neera Tanden, domestic policy advisor to President Biden, and Amy Walter, the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Cook Political Report with Amy Walter and a frequent on-air analyst.
Topics to be discussed at this year’s Legislative/Policy Conference include federal education funding for the 2024-2025 school year, the expiration of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding in September of 2024, and congressional action on K-12 education.
