Big-City Schools Named Among the Best Urban Schools in the Nation
-
On National STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Day in November, Newsweek magazine announced its ranking of the nation’s top 5,000 STEM high schools for 2020. Five urban schools represented by the Council of the Great City Schools ranked in the top 10 amongst the best public and private science, technology, engineering, and mathematics schools in the United States.
The Dallas Independent School District had two of the top schools, with the School of Science and Engineering and the School for the Talented and Gifted ranked No.1 and No.2 respectively. Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Texas’ Austin Independent School District placed No.6 on the list.
“With high-profile institutions in big urban areas and small but strong programs across the nation, America’s future in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is in good hands,” said Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief at Newsweek.
Other big-city schools ranked in the top 10 were New York City’s Bronx High School of Science (No.4) and The Early College of Guilford (No.7) in North Carolina’s Guilford County Schools in Greensboro.
