As the Communications Manager at the Council of the Great City Schools, Joanne Coley manages the Council’s social media presence across multiple platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin) to engage and educate audiences about the Council. She is the managing editor for the Urban Educator digital newsletter, creates and edits videos, maintains the website, and produces graphics for social media and the Council’s conferences.
Prior to joining the Council in 2018 as the Communications Specialist, Joanne worked for the City of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, as a Communications and Marketing Specialist, where she was responsible for handling the city’s internal and external communications (e.g., monitoring press coverage, production of the newsletter, social media management). She also worked closely with the city’s mayor on developing and producing his weekly podcast, The Mayor’s Moment.
Joanne holds a master’s degree in communications/public relations from Southern New Hampshire University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Kent State University.
Fun Fact: Joanne is a “foodie” and enjoys visiting different restaurants in the Washington, D.C., area. She also likes to travel internationally and domestically and is on a quest to visit all 50 states.
