Drew Echelson currently serves as the Chief of Schools and Accountability for the Boston Public Schools. He has previously worked in a number of roles in Boston including Interim Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of Academics Network Superintendent and School Leader. Prior to returning to Boston, Echelson was the Faculty Director of the Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In this role, he supported a diverse cadre of aspiring system-level leaders to accelerate their progress toward roles such as Superintendent and CEO of education-based non-profits. He continues to teach instructional leadership courses for aspiring school and system-level leaders at HGSE.
Echelson started his career in education as a City Year corps member in Boston and then as a teacher in the Hartford, Connecticut Public Schools. He has served as a senior-level leader for several school districts across the country including as the Superintendent of Schools for the Waltham (MA) Public Schools. Echelson completed his undergraduate work in the Honors Program at the University of Connecticut in Sociology with a focus on African-American Studies and earned an Ed.D. at HGSE.
