Researchers and District Leaders Reshaping the Narrative on Males of Color, Share Evidence-Based Practices

A recent edition of Voices in Urban Education (VUE), titled "The Boys Aren't Broken, The Systems Are: Changing the Narrative about Young men of Color", highlights researchers and school district leaders in large city school districts employing research-based strategies to support males of color in school and district-wide initiatives.

This issue of VUE is based on a conference on improving the outcomes of Black and Latino males hosted by the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Topics include creating policies that promote racial equity, addressing implicit biases that hinder opportunities for males of color,  and developing meaningful mentorship programs.

Districts highlighted include New York City Public Schools, Oakland Unifed School District, Boston Public Schools, Guilford County Schools, Minneapolis Public Schools, Rochester City Public Schools, Chicago Public Schools, and Austin Independent School District.

This issue of VUE was co-produced by the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University and the Research Alliance for New York City Schools at New York University.
