The nation’s second-largest school district recently appointed Andrés E. Chait as superintendent. Chait has served as the interim superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District since February 2026.

Chait started his teaching career in the district as a kindergarten teacher and has held several roles throughout his nearly three decades of service, including assistant principal, principal, local district superintendent, chief of school operations, and acting superintendent.

"After careful consideration, the Board determined that Andrés Chait is uniquely qualified to lead this district,” said School Board President Scott Schmerelson in a news release. “He knows our schools, understands our challenges, has earned the trust of employees and school communities, and has already demonstrated his ability to lead with integrity, transparency, and a relentless focus on students."

Interim Leaders Named in D.C. and Lexington

Veteran educator Kim Jackson was recently selected as the chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools by Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. Jackson succeeds Lewis Ferebee, who served as chancellor since 2018.

Jackson recently served as the district’s chief of schools, where she helped lead the launch of the district’s annual Literacy Institute and oversaw the implementation of the new Building Blocks curriculum.

She began her tenure with the district in 2012, serving as an elementary principal, and in 2015, she was recognized as Principal of the Year. She also served as an instructional superintendent and chief of elementary schools.

Kentucky’s Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington has selected Bill Bradford as interim superintendent. Bradford has been serving as the district’s assistant superintendent since 2024, overseeing the office of School Leadership & Learning Support. Bradford succeeds Demetrius Liggins, who led the district since 2021.
