Statement on the Trump Administration’s New Interagency Agreements for Special Education and Civil Rights Enforcement
Today’s announcement from the Trump Administration about new interagency agreements for special education and civil rights enforcement continues the fruitless trend they began last year: scattering education operations and functions to other federal agencies while shirking their responsibility to support and protect the nation’s most vulnerable students.
As previous interagency agreements from the administration have shown, these partnerships are just adding bureaucracy and red tape that state and local leaders, as well as students, parents, and families, must navigate and do nothing to improve educational and life outcomes for students.
The specific work affected by today’s announcement – serving students with disabilities and preserving civil rights protections – should be the highest priority of our national education leaders.
