WASHINGTON, D.C., April 22—Alishia Jolivette, Chief of Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations, for the Houston Independent School District (HISD), was recently presented with the Dr. Robert “Bob” Carlson Leadership in Operations Award. The award was presented to Jolivette for exceptional operational leadership at the Council of the Great City Schools’ Chief Operating Officers, and Directors of Child Nutrition, Facilities, Safety & Security, and Transportation Conference in Detroit.

Jolivette has served as the chief of facilities & maintenance & operations for HISD since 2024, where she oversees facilities, maintenance, energy management, safety systems, food services, construction, and athletics for the nation’s eighth-largest school district. She joined the school district in 1996 as a substitute clerk and rose through the ranks, holding several roles, including Executive Officer of Facilities, Maintenance, and Operations, and Deputy Chief of Operations.

“This award recognizes Jolivette’s exceptional leadership and dedicated service leading the facilities, maintenance, and operations department at HISD,” said Willie Burroughs, the Council’s director of management services. “From leading recovery efforts during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 to supporting the school district through the COVID-19 pandemic, she has played a vital role in the success of Texas’ largest school system. Throughout her career, she has also been a strong advocate for women pursuing a career in facilities management. Jolivette is an  exemplary role model for other chief facilities officers in urban school districts and is highly  deserving of this honor.”

Jolivette holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston-Downtown.
